Since I just mentioned it in my Unconscious Mutterings for the week, and because I like it otherwise, and because I've neglected this blog for a while (not that one though), here is a fresh song of the week:
Marilyn Manson's "Speed of Pain", from "Mechanical Animals"
"Just remember
When you think you're free
the crack inside your fucking heart is me".
Gotta love the man. He's so sweet.
I've been grumpy all weekend, and "My Dark Life" fits the mood. It's a live recording, from the excellent box set "Costello & Nieve", which has bits from five shows with Elvis Costello and keyboarder Steve Nieve.
This one's from the Fillmore in San Francisco.
Enjoy.
"I Think I'll Call It Morning" always make me smile.
"I"m gonna take myself a piece of sunshine and paint it all over my sky
Be no rain ... be no rain ... "
Yup. My kinda attitude.
Enjoy. And if you've never heard of Gil Scott-Heron before, I'll be pleased to have introduced you.
Added later: Thanks for testing, Rich. Well, that's disappointing that it only plays one second. Too bad ... really, it's such a great song! I bought it about a month ago, and keep listening to it.
But at least now I know not to try to stream purchases from the store. Dang DRM ... alright, my second attempt at a Song of the Week is coming right up.
Added even later: Rich posted the song. Go on over and have a listen.
"... but I'm not
giving in
an inch
to fear
'cause I promised myself
this year
I feel
like I owe it
to someone"
Shamelessly stealing the "Song of the Week" idea from andrewjthomas. That'll teach him!
I'll start off with a track from one of my favorite albums of the year, Red Hot Chilli Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium". No, not "Dani, California", you all know that one by heart. One of my other faves from that album is Slow Cheetah. Enjoy.
They're playing at the San Jose Jazz Festival today; they'll be on stage at 6pm, and I intend to cheer wildly.
