Since I just mentioned it in my Unconscious Mutterings for the week, and because I like it otherwise, and because I've neglected this blog for a while (not that one though), here is a fresh song of the week:

This week's song (yes, I know I skipped a week) is Don Henley's "Goodbye to a River" because I just listened to it and because it is November aka National Novel Writing Month and because that fits so well with my favorite line from this song:

I owe you a song of the week. Bit behind, because work was busy. And in related news, Apple has added a Spanish-language section to the American iTunes Store, called iTunes Latino. I'll take that as a great excuse to play you a Spanish-language American song.

Having said that, there *is* one Thom Yorke vocal that I like: his "cameo" on PJ Harvey's "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea".

I've been grumpy all weekend, and "My Dark Life" fits the mood. It's a live recording, from the excellent box set "Costello & Nieve", which has bits from five shows with Elvis Costello and keyboarder Steve Nieve.

I've been trading CDs on la la lately. You pay $1.75 for a CD from another la la member (a buck for the CD, and 75 cents for shipping), and you list your own CDs that you want to get rid of. And so you trade. Since it's so cheap, I've reaquainted myself with a number of never-forgotten old favorites, like "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" from Gil Scott-Heron.

I've been into mashups lately. Mashups, also called bootlegs or bastard pop, are two or more songs mixed into one song. The best ones are combinations you would never expect.
My love for mashups is all badgermama's fault. She'd been on a quest to find great stickers for my PowerBook, and bequeathed to me a several beauties, including one for Bootie SF, a great website for mashups. They list their monthly top ten, and I've downloaded quite a few gems, and found several sites for mashup artists.
Arty Fufkin is one of them, and his mashup "Crazy Logic" is one of the catchiest things. It blends Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy", Supertramp's "Logical Song", The Who's "Go to the Mirror Boy", and Rockwell's "Somebody’s Watching". Listen to it and tell me you don't start bobbing your head. If you like it as much as I do (and even if you don't), you can download it from Arty Fufkin's site.

I'll start off with a track from one of my favorite albums of the year, Red Hot Chilli Peppers' "Stadium Arcadium". No, not "Dani, California", you all know that one by heart. One of my other faves from that album is Slow Cheetah. Enjoy.
